Who Is This Experience For?

The Tuscany Sketchbook Experience welcomes adults with different backgrounds and levels of artistic experience.

Complete Beginners

No prior drawing experience is required. Beginners will receive clear guidance in observation, basic drawing, composition and the use of each material. The emphasis is on learning to see and developing confidence, not on producing perfect drawings.

Developing Artists and Art Students

Participants with some experience will strengthen their observational drawing, composition and understanding of historical techniques while studying directly from original works of art.

Experienced and Professional Artists

Advanced participants may use the tour to deepen their visual research, explore unfamiliar historical materials and develop more personal and sophisticated sketchbook studies.

Art Lovers and Cultural Travelers

The program is also appropriate for people who appreciate Renaissance art, museums, architecture and Italian culture and would like to experience Tuscany through an artist’s perspective.

Each participant will work at an appropriate level while sharing the same cultural visits, materials and artistic environment.

Artistic and Cultural Focus

During the tour, participants will:

  • Study Renaissance masterpieces directly in museums, churches and historic sites

  • Draw from paintings, sculpture, architecture and the Tuscan landscape

  • Examine how historical artists used line, value, composition and materials

  • Create a personal travel sketchbook documenting the experience

  • Work with silverpoint, sanguine, quill and dip pen, ink wash and charcoal on toned paper

  • Receive guidance and commentary from Luis Borrero

  • Develop a closer connection between observation, art history and personal expression

  • Participate in a serious, supportive and professional creative environment
